Sobering thoughts for Oisin Murphy at Royal Ascot

By Andrew Atkinson

Oisin Murphy will be the focus of media attention on day one of the 2019 Royal Ascot meeting on Tuesday June 18.

Talented Irish jockey Murphy, 23, amongst the leading pack to be champion Flat jockey this season, failed a breath test for alcohol at Salisbury on Sunday, preventing him from riding.

Murphy will be riding in six races on the opening day of the five day Classic meeting, with GUILDSMAN, priced at 8-1, (3.05) trained by Archie Watson, worthy of each way support.

Murphy is up on Mark Johnston trained MATTERHORN (2.30) on the day’s opening race, priced at 25-1.

  1. J. Quinn saddles SIGNORA CABELLO (3.40) with Murphy on board, priced at 25-1.

Rank outsider BELL ROCK (4.20) trained by Andrew Balding, priced at 50-1, will need Murphy to pull out all the stops to land in the placings.

KEROSIN (5.00) trained by Denis Horgan has an each way chance, priced at 12-1, with Murphy up.

Roger Varian trained MOUNTAIN ANGEL (5.35) priced at 12-1, with Murphy in the saddle, is worthy of an each way punt.
