• Appleby Emirates and Darley Dewhurst Newmarket bid

By Andrew Atkinson

Coroebus goes to post odds-on favourite in the £60,000 Emirates Group 3 Autumn Stakes (2.20) over 1m at Newmarket on Saturday – with a winning purse of £34,026 up for grabs.

In last month’s Royal Lodge Stakes, Godolphin maiden winner Coroebus lead the field, looking to win comfortably, only to be thwarted of victory on the line by Highclere-owned Royal Patronage.

Jockey William Buick sent Coroebus into a decisive lead entering the final 2 furlongs, but tired on the climb to the line, with Acomb winner Royal Patronage landing the race under Jason Hart.

Charlie Appleby trained Coroebus priced at 8-11 is looking to put that defeat aside.

The Darley Dewhurst Stakes Group 1 (2.55) over 7f also sees heavily odds-on 4-6 favourite Native Trail tipped by fromthehorsesmouth.info head the betting, with Bayside Boy and Straight Answer both priced at 5-1.

Charlie Appleby trained Native Trail, unbeaten in three outings, last won a Group 1 at The Curragh in September under Buick, following wins at Newmarket and Sandown Park.

Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes 7 furlongs runners and jockeys.

  1. Bayside Boy David Egan
  2. Berkshire Shadow Oisin Murphy
  3. Dhabab Frankie Dettori
  4. Dubawi Legend James Doyle
  5. Glounthaune Jockey tbc
  6. Go Bears Go Rossa Ryan
  7. Native Trail William Buick
  8. Straight Answer Colin Keane

Native Trail and Straight Answer (11-2) go head-to-head in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes with the former bidding to enhance claims as the leading juvenile in Europe.

Ger Lyons trained Straight Answer, supplemented at £32,000, lines up on the back of an impressive Listed win at Fairyhouse, with Colin Keane up.

Roger Varian saddles Bayside Boy running in Group 1 company for the first time, having won the Doncaster Champagne Stakes at the St Leger meeting.

Coventry Stakes winner Berkshire Shadow trained by Andrew Balding and Go Bears Go (20-1) trained by David Loughnane are noted runners also going to post.

“Go Bears Go is in great order, we felt the step up in trip will suit him, but Native Trail will be really hard to beat and Ger’s horse looks really good too.

“At his current odds he’s underestimated. He’s only been beaten a length in each of those Group 1s and he’s one of the most consistent horses in training. If he handles the trip, who knows what’ll happen,” said Loughnane.

Cesarewitch

The Together For Racing International Cesarewitch (3.35) over 2m 2f sees 34 runners go to post.

Trainer Willie Mullins has six entries in a tilt at landing the Cesarewitch a fourth consecutive time.

M C Muldoon (9-2) tipped by fromthehorsesmouth.info is the ace in Mullins’ pack with Ryan Moore up. 2020 winner Great White Shark (16-1) will bid to become only the second multiple winner of the race.

Mullins other quartet are Triumph Hurdle winner Burning Victory, Whiskey Sour, Foveros and Micro Manage.

Oisin Murphy rides Buzz (7-1) with Live Your Dream (12-1) tipped each-way by fromthehorsesmouth.info.

Calling The Wind and 2018 winner Withhold are also in with a shout.
