FRANKIE Dettori will return to Goodwood on Ladies Day, August 1, on the back of riding his 200th winner at the course in May, when successful on the John Gosden trained Terebellum.

“I knew I was close in riding my 200th Goodwood winner, when winning on Terebellum – then I had it confirmed,” said Frankie, set to woo the ladies once again at the Sussex track this summer.

“My first winner in England was in June 1987. Something I will never forget. It is special,” said Dettori, who rode Lizzy Hare to victory at Goodwood in 1987, trained by Luca Cumani.

Dettori, who has ridden 70 winners at Glorious Goodwood – including four Sussex Stakes, and three Goodwood Cup successes – was presented with a picture in May, of his victory aboard Lancelot Du Lac, in the Goodwood 2017 Stewards’ Cup.

Three times champion Flat jockey Dettori, said: “The Qatar Goodwood Festival is a beautiful week – the most picturesque racecourse in the country.”

Dettori said his best memory at Glorious Goodwood was in 2006, when riding the Ed Dunlop trained Ouija Board to victory in the £100,000 Vodafone Nassau Stakes G1, over 1m 2f.

“My best memory was on Ouija Board – a brilliant battle,” reflected Dettori, who got the photo finish verdict, when beating Alexander Goldrun, by a short head.

“It was a great performance – up their with the best. Ouija Board was one of a kind, that showed great guts,” said Italian star Dettori.
