Escobar – selected by fromthehorsesmouth.tips – landed the Balmoral Handicap on Qipco Champions Day at Ascot at 16-1 – part of a 8,175-1 6-horse winning accumulator!
“I didn’t think he’d go on the ground – and I thought the draw was against us – so it’s a lovely surprise,” said trainer David O’Meara.
“When things drop right he can certainly be better than a handicapper – he’s been given a great ride,” said O’Meara.
Escobar raced towards the rear of the 20 runners’ field, moving through runners under jockey Adam Kirby, who beat Frankie Dettori on board runner up and 3-1 favourite Lord North.
“It was a great feel and he finished off well. It’s a great place to ride winners – fair play to David O’Meara, and full credit to Escobar,” said Kirby.
