Christian Williams saddled Win My Wings to land the Eider Chase at Newcastle following a huge gamble, from 20-1 to 11-2 favourite, under Ryan Mania.
“She was good and fresh today – she didn’t scope quite right three weeks ago – but we managed to get her back in good form and scoped her two days ago, it’s brilliant,” said Williams.
“We took a chance with the cheekpieces. The owner gave me a bit of stick – but I just thought we needed to improve a little bit to try and win the race and that the cheekpieces might help her early on.
“She travelled sweet the whole way,” said Williams.
Eclair Surf (15-2) trained by Emma Lavelle and ridden by Tom Bellamy, tipped each-way, finished second in the 17 runners Vertem Eider C2 Chase over 4m 1f.
Barrichello (1-6) tipped by fromthehorsesmouth.info won the Vertem C3 Novices Handicap Hurdle over 2m, under Peter Cavanagh.
